Childlife Mozambique
Empowering young mothers to provide their children with a better start in life.
In Zavala District, south-east Mozambique, life is challenging for many children. Poverty is widespread, and more than a third of children show signs of stunted growth. The impact of AIDS—which has claimed over 600,000 lives in Mozambique over the past decade—has left many families without the support of older generations. As a result, young mothers often lack guidance on how to care for their children and struggle to afford healthcare and education costs.
With support from Egmont, Childlife Mozambique is working to change this.
They are training local volunteers to support pregnant women and mothers of young children—especially those who are young or living with HIV. Through home visits and group sessions, mothers are learning about childcare, health, nutrition, and early learning.
The project is also supporting children to return to school and delivering youth sessions on reproductive health, child marriage, and gender-based violence—empowering young people to build a better future.
To boost family resilience, Childlife are also providing training in climate-smart farming, savings groups, and small business skills — empowering parents to increase their families' income and food security.
