THE EGMONT TRUST

Improving the lives of children affected by HIV&AIDS
About us

Egmont, a UK-registered charitable trust established in 2005, currently works with close to 50 partner organisations in southern and eastern Africa - in Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

We recognise that the impact of HIV&AIDS on children is magnified by family breakdown, loss of education and lack of food security. Through rigorous selection of partners who are achieving tangible results, our aim is to improve tens of thousands of young lives affected by the epidemic.

Egmont believes

  • Children are the future of the community and the most vulnerable to the impact of AIDS.
  • Projects driven by the energy, knowledge, experience, creativity and commitment of those directly affected are the most successful and cost-effective.
  • Good initiatives can be scaled up to achieve critical momentum and spread good practice - as happened in Uganda.
  • It is possible to make a genuine difference quickly with small amounts of money.
  • Good accountability and management do not require a big bureaucracy. A slim organisation increases cost-effectiveness and keeps us, and our supporters, closer to what is actually happening.
The effects of HIV&AIDS faced by our partner communities constitute both an emergency and a long-term problem - a reality that the international aid sector finds difficult. BUT it is not a hopeless situation and can be tackled effectively.
